๐ฝ๐น๐ณ๐ ๐ฐ
Appearance
Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Contested; Lehmann lists several possibilities. Possibly to be connected with the first element of Old Norse niรฐfวซlr, in which case the Old Norse word might mean "rust-yellow". Perhaps from Proto-Germanic *nidwล (โgoing down, sinking, downfallโ), or from a compound involving the same first element as Old English neowol, or perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *ney- (โto be aroused, shineโ) (whence latin Latin niteล (โto glitter, shineโ)).
