Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *murรพrijanฤ (โto murderโ).
A prefixed form of this word may be attested in the Gothica Bononiensia fragment, which has gamaur (folio 1 recto, line 19) with the ending of the verb lacking due to a lacuna. Given the existence of this verb with -r-, this fragment may point to the existence of *๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐๐ธ๐๐พ๐ฐ๐ฝ (*gamaurรพrjan). The narrowness of the lacuna however seems to favor a shorter form, perhaps from *๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐๐ธ๐พ๐ฐ๐ฝ (*gamaurรพjan), corresponding to a simplex verb *๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐๐ธ๐พ๐ฐ๐ฝ (*maurรพjan) from *murรพijanฤ , which otherwise has no known reflexes (prefixed or otherwise) in Gothic.
