[edit]From Proto-Germanic *akwisฤซ. Cognate to Old English รฆx and Old Norse รธx, and probably of similar origin as Koine Greek แผฮพฮฏฮฝฮท (axรญnฤ), which it translates. For more, see the Proto-Germanic entry.
