First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 나ᄋᆞᆯ〮 (Yale: nàól), from Proto-Koreanic *ne (four) + *hoL (day). Cognate with Jeju 나흘 (naheul).
