Inherited from Old Javanese lontar, rontar, rontal, compound of ron (“leaf”) +‎ tal, tala (“palm”), from Sanskrit ताल (tāla, “palm”). Doublet of ꦭꦺꦴꦤ꧀ꦠꦂ (lontar).
