Etymology

Derived from Classical Persian لشکر (laškar). Cognate with Hindustani (Hindi लश्कर (laśkar), Urdu لَشْکَر (laśkar)), Bengali লস্কর (loskor), Gujarati લશ્કર (laśkar). Compare English lascar, French lascar, Portuguese lascar, Spanish lascar, Turkish leşker, Northern Kurdish leşker.
