Derived from Classical Persian لشکر (laškar). Cognate Assamese লস্কৰ (loskor) / লহকৰ (lohokor), Bengali লস্কর (loskor), Gujarati લશ્કર (laśkar), Hindustani لَشْکَر (laśkar) / लश्कर (laśkar). Compare English lascar, French lascar, Northern Kurdish leşker, Portuguese lascar, Spanish lascar, Turkish leşker.
