Etymology
[edit]Literally “a crane lives for a thousand years, a tortoise ten thousand years”.
The first part of the proverb, tsuru wa sennen, is an allusion to a passage in the Huainanzi,[1][2] a calque of Literary Chinese 鶴壽千歲.
