Etymology
[edit]Eye dialect for 駄洒落 (dajare, “bad pun, dumb joke, dad joke”), replacing the middle character 洒 (“solemn; steep, high”) with the visually similar character 酒 (“sake, alcohol”). Note the extra horizontal stroke along the bottom of the second character.
The resulting spelling is itself a form of visual dajare, adding in the implication that this is a dumb joke made when one has been drinking. This spelling may be proscribed in some contexts.
