Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Mongolian ᠬᠤᠤᠯᠢᠩᠭᠤᠤᠯ (quulingɣuul), taken from the name of the Holin River; traditionally thought to be derived from ᠬᠣᠭᠤᠯᠠᠨ (qoɣulan, food to be eaten) + ᠭᠣᠣᠯ (ɣool, river), in reference to the river being historically used for rest and recuperation. Alternatively, possibly from the cognate term ᠬᠣᠭᠤᠯᠠᠶ (qoɣulay, channel; waterway).
