Etymology
[edit]The 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of classical 下二段活用 (shimo nidan katsuyō) verb 雲隠る (kumogakuru, “to hide or disappear behind the clouds”).
Equivalent to 雲 (kumo, “cloud”) + 隠れ (kakure, stem form of verb 隠れる (kakureru), “to disappear, hide”). The kakure changes to gakure as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
