Etymology
[edit]From earlier consonant stem 長く (taku); became vowel stem take- when the conclusive was overtaken by the attributive form which ultimately resulted in the shift from lower bigrade to lower monograde conjugation class. Cognate with 高 (taka, “height”), 高い (takai, “high, tall”), 丈 (take, “height”), 岳 (take, “peak”).
