Etymology

From earlier consonant stem 長く (taku); became vowel stem take- when the conclusive was overtaken by the attributive form which ultimately resulted in the shift from lower bigrade to lower monograde conjugation class. Cognate with (taka, height), 高い (takai, high, tall), (take, height), (take, peak).
