Etymology
[edit]From たけ (take, root of classical ku-adjective(ク活用 (ku katsuyō)) 猛し (takeshi, “bold, courageous; violent, vigorous”)) + ぶ (-bu, “to act (in a certain manner)”, verbal suffix with upper bigrade conjugation).[1] Cognate with 高 (taka, “tall, high”) and 猛る (takeru).[1]
