Etymology

[edit]

Compound of たけだけ (takedake, reduplication of たけ (take), stem of classical ku-adjective(ク活用 (ku katsuyō)) 猛し (takeshi, bold, courageous; violent, vigorous), from which verbs 誥ぶ (takebu) and 猛る (takeru) are derived) + しい (-shii, adjectivizing suffix evoking quality of the suffixed term).
