Etymology
[edit]From 成り (nari, the 連用形 (ren’yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 成る (naru), “to promote (at an opponent’s square)”) + 桂 (kei, abbreviated from 桂馬 (keima), “cassia horse → laurelled horse”).
