1. (a person’s) age, approximate age
   • 1933, Etō Toshio, Dattan [Tatary]‎^[1], page 172:

     誰(だれ)の評(ひょう)判(ばん)はどうだの、年(ねん)輩(ぱい)はいくつだの、誰(だれ)はアバタがあるなどいった風(ふう)に、直(ちょく)接(せつ)自(じ)分(ぶん)で見(み)、聴(き)きした通(とお)り、ズバリズバリと書(か)いてある。

     Dare no hyōban wa dō da no, nenpai wa ikutsu da no, dare wa abata ga aru nado itta fū ni, chokusetsu jibun de mi, kiki shita tōri, zubari zubari to kaite-aru.

     What someone’s reputation is, what age someone is, whether someone has spots and so on, what I saw for myself and everything as I heard it, it is written down precisely.

     Kono teguchi de nenpai no otoko wa Kamakura no tochi shoyūsha no jūminhyō ya koseki tōhon nado hitsuyō na shorui o toriyose, sorera o tsukate ishi meigi no baiku no menkyoshō o totta.

     Using this trick, an older man was able to order official copies of necessary documents such as the residence certificate and family register of a land owner in Kamakura, and used them to get a motorcycle license in the doctor’s name.
