[edit]From がちん (gachin, “thuddingly”, adverb; sound effect for something heavy and solid colliding) + こ (-ko, nominalizer). Compare ぶらんこ (buranko, “(playground) swing”), from adverb ぶらん (buran, “hanging loosely”) + こ (ko, nominalizer).
