[edit]Variously recorded in the Omoro Sōshi and Nantō Kayō as ききや, きゝや, きちゃ, きちや, 鬼界, ちちやア、鬼堺, and in the Ryūka as 鬼界.
Further derivation unknown. Compare Northern Amami Ōshima きゃー (kyā).
