Etymology

Unknown. According to Beekes, this word is hardly related to the verb ἐλαύνω (elaúnō, to drive, set in motion; to drive away), thus suggesting a Pre-Greek origin.

[edit]

  1. Hesychius gives the definition as: ἴκτῑνος (íktīnos, kite).
