[edit]Beekes reconstructs Proto-Indo-European *tḱiH-in (“kite”), connecting the word with Armenian ցին (cʻin, “kite”), Avestan 𐬯𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬀 (saēna, “a mythical bird”), and Sanskrit श्येन (śyena, “eagle, falcon”).
