From Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewg- (to belch, roar). Cognates include Latin ērūgō, Old Armenian ործամ (orcam), Lithuanian riaugėti, Russian рыга́ть (rygátʹ), Old English rocettan and Albanian regj.[1]
