Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *egéřřō, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ger- (“to awake”). Cognate with English Gregory, as well as Sanskrit जागृ (jāgṛ, “to be awake, alert”); see the Sanskrit for more cognates.[1]
