Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Maybe from *ἄκαρστος.[1] Cognate to Latin acer. According to Beekes, since plant names are often borrowed, and the formation is unclear, it can be envisaged a Pre-Greek origin. Furnée compares κάστον (káston, “wood”) and κόστον (kóston, “wooden parts of a wagon”).
