Borrowed from Old Javanese ṭikā (drawing, writing, painting; portrait), from Prakrit ṭikka (mark, spot), probably from Sanskrit टीका (ṭīkā, note, remark, commentary) and Sanskrit तिलक (tilaka, a freckle; mark).
