From ᄒᆞᆸ서 (hawpseo, formal, polite imperative of ᄒᆞ다 (hawda, to do)) +‎ 체(體) (che, style). Calque of Korean 합쇼체 (hapsyoche).

ᄒᆞᆸ서체 is a speech level used among strangers, speeches, interviews, by TV announcers, and to customers. It is generally considered slightly less formal than the Korean equivalent 하십시오체 (hasipsioche).

Jeju words inflected in this speech level are commonly characterized by the endings 으우다 (-euuda) or 읍네다 (-eumneda) in declarative statements, 으우꽈 (-euukkwa) or 읍네까 (-eumnekka) in questions, 읍서 (-eupseo) in the imperative, and in 읍주 (-eupju) in the propositive. E.g.:
