Etymology

Akin to Mingrelian ხაჭო (xač̣o). Perhaps an Abkhaz-Abaza borrowing, at times derived from the ancestor of Abkhaz а-хаҷа (a-xačʼa, cottage cheese) or, alternatively, from Abkhaz а-хырҵәы́ (a-xərcʷʼə́, literally sour milk).[1][2]
