Etymology

From Proto-Georgian-Zan *ʒec̣₁n-, and Proto-Kartvelian *ʒ₁ec̣₁(w)n- (willow) if Svan ჭჷჭჷნდ (č̣əč̣ənd, willow) is not a borrowing from Mingrelian. Cognate with Georgian ძეწნა (ʒec̣na, weeping willow) whence Mingrelian ძერწი (ʒerc̣i).[1][2]
