Particularly: “MED groups the "weed out", "mat reed", and "teach, learn" senses together, which is feasible, though uncertain. Not given etymology by STEDT (ə-saŋ "peeling off", saŋ "learn; teach"), while Luce gives Old Chinese 庠 (OC *ljaŋ, “school, monastery”) as a cognate.[2] However, the Chinese is thought to derive from a different root based on later analyses.”
