Etymology

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (pui. "send"), while Luce compares Old Chinese (OC *pos, “to deliver, pay”) and Tibetan སྤྲོད (sprod, to give, offer) as cognates.[1] Unclear if the "send off" and "be piled" senses are related, though MED groups them together.

Note similarities to (OC *pʰoɡs, “to go to, attend”) for the "send off" sense (albeit probably superficial), and (OC *buʔ, “mound”) for the "be piled" sense (though this latter character is thought to be related to a different Burmese root).”
