From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s/m-ba ~ *s/m-baːy (to throw), and cognate with Mizo paih (to throw away), Old Chinese (OC *prals, *paːlʔ, “lame, crippled”) (STEDT). Also note resemblance to Old Chinese (OC *brɯːl, “to reject, emit”).
