[edit]From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-nəw (“to awake, awaken”); cognate with Lahu [script needed] (nɔ̂, “to awaken from sleep”) (STEDT). Luce additionally compares Old Chinese 悟 (OC *ŋaːs, “to awaken, become aware”), 寤 (OC *ŋaːs, “to wake up”).[1]
