Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s/d-krwak (fear; frighten). Cognate with Nuosu (jjur) (as in ꐬꆠ (jjur hla, to fear)), Tibetan སྐྲག་པ་ (skrag pa, to be afraid) and Drung vkraq (to be surprised, to be frightened), as well as Old Chinese (OC *qʰraːɡs, *qʰraːɡ, “to frighten”) (STEDT).
