[edit]From Proto-Tai *paːkᴰ (“mouth”). Cognate with Thai ปาก (bpàak), Northern Thai ᨸᩣ᩠ᨠ, Lü ᦔᦱᧅ (ṗaak), Shan ပၢၵ်ႇ (pàak), Ahom 𑜆𑜀𑜫 (pak), Saek ป̄าก. Compare Southern Kam bags (“mouth”), Proto-Be *ɓaːkᴰ¹ (“mouth”) (whence ɓak⁷ in modern lects). Compare also Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *baqbaq (whence Cebuano baba, Eastern Cham ꨚꨝꩍ (pabah), Hawaiian waha).
