[edit]From โมฆ (moo-ká-, “invalid, void; profitless, useless; etc”) + บุรุษ (bù-rùt, “man; person”); ultimately from Sanskrit मोघ (mogha, “fruitless; futile; unprofitable; useless; vain”) + पुरुष (puruṣa, “man; person”), probably via Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer puruṣa (“man; person”). Compare Modern Khmer មោឃបុរស (moŭkhbŏrsâ).
