[edit]From อำนาจ (am-nâat, Amnat, part of the noble title of the first ruler of the city, literally “power; authority”) + เจริญ (jà-rəən, “to prosper, to thrive; to grow, to increase”); meaning "made prosperous by Amnat"; after Suea Amonsin (เสือ อมรสิน), the first ruler of the city who held the noble title of Phra Amon Amnat (พระอมรอำนาจ); coined by King Mongkut of Siam around 1858.[1]
