[edit]Borrowed from Old Khmer ចង្វាត៑ (caṅvāt), ចង្វាត្ត៑ (caṅvātt), ចង្វត៑ (caṅvat), ចង្វត្ត៑ (caṅvatt), ចំវត្ត៑ (caṃvatt), ចន្វត៑ (canvat, “bounded terrain; bounded territory; circumscription”), from ឆ្វាត៑ or ឆ្វត៑ (whence ฉวัด in Thai ฉวัดเฉวียน (chà-wàt-chà-wǐian) is from). Cognate with modern Khmer ចង្វាត (cɑngviət).
