Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Sanskrit तालपत्त्र (tālapattra, “palm leaf”), from ताल (tāla, “palm”) + पत्त्र (pattra, “leaf; paper; sheet; etc”), equivalent to Thai ตาล (dtaan) + ปัตร. Cognate with Modern Khmer តាលបត្រ (talbtâr).
