[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑀢𑁆𑀢 (ratta) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit रक्त (rakta).
Cognate with Assamese ৰাতা (rata), Dhivehi ރަތް (rat̊), Hindustani راتا / राता (rātā), Kachchi રત્ત (ratt), Nepali रातो (rāto), Odia ରତା (ratā), Punjabi ਰੱਤਾ / رَتّا (rattā), and Sindhi رَتو (rato).
