Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit रक्त (raktá). Cognate with Assamese ৰাতা (rata), Dhivehi ރަތް (rat̊), Gujarati રાતું (rātũ), Kachchi રત્ત (ratt), Nepali रातो (rāto), Odia ରତା (ratā), Punjabi ਰੱਤਾ / رَتّا (rattā), and Sindhi رَتو (rato).
