[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀳𑀕𑁆𑀖 (mahaggha), from Sanskrit महार्घ (mahārgha), from महा (mahā, “great, large, enormous”) + अर्घ (arghá, “price”). Compare Assamese মহঙা (mohoṅa), Hindustani مہنگا / महंगा (mahaṅgā), Konkani म्हारग (mhārag), Marathi महाग (mahāg), Punjabi ਮਹਿੰਗਾ (mahiṅgā) / مَہِن٘گا (mahiṉgā).
