Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit भिण्डा (bhiṇḍā), from Dravidian (Compare Malayalam വെണ്ട (veṇṭa) and Tamil வெண்டை (veṇṭai)). Cognate with Hindi भिंडी (bhiṇḍī), Marathi भेंडी (bheṇḍī), and Odia ଭେଣ୍ଡ (bheṇḍa).
