Inherited from Sanskrit दर्दुर (dardura, frog), from imitative Proto-Indo-European root *dard-. Doublet of દાદુર (dādur) and દાદુરું (dādurũ). Cognate with Hindustani دادر / दादुर (dādur). Wider cognates include Lithuanian dardė́ti (to rattle), Welsh godyrddu (to mumble).[1][2]
