Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀚𑀟𑁆𑀟 (jaḍḍa), from Sanskrit जड (jaḍa), of non-Indo-Aryan origin. Cognate with Bengali জাড় (jaṛ, cold), Kashmiri زَد (zad, stupid), Marathi जाड (jāḍ, thick), Odia ଜାଡ଼ୁଆ (jāṛuā, dumb), and Sindhi خَرُ (jaru, wretch).
