[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi जाड (jāḍa), from Prakrit 𑀚𑀟𑁆𑀟 (jaḍḍa), from Sanskrit जाड्य (jāḍya). Cognate with Bengali জাড় (jaṛ, “cold”), Kashmiri زَد (zad, “stupid”), Gujarati જાડું (jāḍũ, “thick”), Odia ଜାଡ଼ୁଆ (jāṛuā, “dumb”), and Sindhi خَرُ (jaru, “wretch”).
