[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀙𑀕𑀡 (chagaṇa), from Sanskrit *छकन (chakana), from शकृत् (śakṛt), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćák-r̥ ~ *ćak-ná-s (“dung, excrement”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱókʷ-r̥ ~ *ḱekʷ-én-s (“dung, excrement”). Cognate with Baluchi سغن (saġan, “dung”), Marathi शेण (śeṇ), Persian سرگین (sargin), and Sindhi ڇيڻو (cheṇo).
