[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀟𑀺𑀬𑀸 (kakkaḍiyā), from Sanskrit कर्कट (karkaṭa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate to Hindi ककड़ी (kakṛī), Marathi काकडी (kākḍī). Doublet of કાકડો (kākḍo, “unripe coconut”) and કર્કટ (karkaṭ, “crab”).
