[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀁𑀞 (kaṃṭha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit कण्ठ (kaṇṭhá, “throat”). Cognate to Hindi काँठा (kā̃ṭhā), Marathi कांठें (kāṇṭhẽ).
