[edit]Inherited from Prakrit *𑀆𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀅 (*āddaa), from Sanskrit आर्द्रक (ārdraka, “ginger”), from आर्द्र (ārdra, “wet”), as fresh ginger is wet. Doublet of અદરક (adarak). Cognate with Kachchi આધૂ (ādhū).
