[edit]From Sanskrit सिंह (siṃha), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *sinźʰás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sinȷ́ʰás, from dialectal Proto-Indo-European *sinǵʰo-, ultimately a borrowing from a Central Asian substrate language. Doublet of ਸ਼ੀਂਹ (śī̃h).
