[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit हृदय (hṛdaya), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ʰŕ̥dayam, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱḗr. Cognate to Gujarati હૈયું (haiyũ), Marwari हिवड़ा (hivṛā), Bhojpuri हीव (hīv), Hindi हिया (hiyā), Bengali হিয়া (hiẏa). Doublet of হৃদয় (hridoy).
