Borrowed from Classical Persian حديث (hadīs), from Arabic حَدِيث (ḥadīṯ, “story, news”). Cognate with Assamese হাদিছ (hadis), Hindi हदीस (hadīs), Gujarati હદીસ (hadīs), Punjabi ਹਦੀਸ (hadīs).

   Whatever topic the Quran is silent about is almost always found in the hadith.
